New Business Checklist

  • Complete a General Registration Application and return it to the JPSO Revenue and Taxation Department.
    • Note the following:
      • If the business is a corporation, LLC, or LLP, the organization must be in good standing with the LA Secretary of State.

      • If the business is located in the unincorporated area of Jefferson Parish, a zoning clearance issued by the Jefferson Parish Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement must be obtained.  Zoning clearances may be obtained online at mygovernmentonline.org.  For assistance, please call 504-736-6320.
  • If the trade name of the business does not include your full legal name or the name of the corporation, LLC or LLP, a receipt indicating that the trade name of the business has been recorded with the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court. The Clerk requires a notarized affidavit and imposes a fee for recordation. Trade name recordation may be completed at one of the following Clerk of Court offices:

  • If applicable, the appropriate occupational license tax may be due. Checks should be made payable to "Joseph P. Lopinto, III, Sheriff and Tax Collector".
  • Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
