Local
sales, license, and property taxes provide the major source of funding
for the multitude of services we depend upon. These include such vital
services as police and fire protection, education, sewerage and drainage
projects, and road construction. In addition, local tax dollars provide
funds for economic development, recreational facilities, and a number
of community projects.
The
Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Revenue and Taxation
is charged with the responsibility of enforcing laws governing the
collection of local sales/use, license, property, chain store, and
premium taxes as levied by the Parish, School Board, and other local
governmental taxing jurisdictions. The Bureau also collects fees and
fines imposed by the courts in conjunction with a number of offenses.
The Bureau collects, records, and distributes these taxes, fees and
fines to the various agencies, courts, organizations, and municipalities
within Jefferson Parish as directed by local ordinance and state statute.
