Lt. Edgar Merida

Lieutenant Edgar Merida began his law enforcement career when he completed the Police Academy in 1982. He was assigned to patrol and worked in many areas of the sheriff's office, including Canine Handler, Narcotics Agent, Public Assignment where he became involved in airport operations as well as Mardi Gras operations. During his time on patrol he worked as Assistant Platoon Commander and supervised follow up investigations. His most recent assignment, the Internal Management Bureau, he serves as an Internal Affairs Investigator; where he is responsible for conducting administrative investigations. As an internal investigator some of Lt. Merdia's duties include interview complainants, witnesses and employees of the sheriff's office. He gathers information, evidence and photographs to support conclusions for all cases, which are then forwarded to the Bureau Chief for review prior to conclusion of any case. Lt. Merida also assists the Bureau Chief in implementing plans for safe operation at the New Orleans International Airport daily operation as well as emergency or crisis operations.

"I enjoy the ability to move around and serve in several different capacities of the sheriff’s office, I have experienced law enforcement from all perspectives," said Merida. "It has made me a better police officer and has been valuable to the citizens of Jefferson Parish."
