Captain Dennis Thornton has been with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office since 1978. He has dedicated twenty years to the Homicide Division where he assumed the position of Commander in 2007. He was most recently awarded the "2007 Crimestoppers Law Enforcement Award" for performance and support of the Crimestoppers program. The Homicide Division responds to homicides, suicides and other incidents involving death investigations. As the Commander, Captain Thornton supervises two sergeants and four detectives and provides logistics and case management functions for the division. Other duties include, conducting and assisting in investigations, participate in all aspects of follow up, and prepare murder cases for prosecution and maintain statistical data for the division.
