Hurricane Katrina Rescue Efforts

The entire LASER Division along with certain personnel of the LASER Reserve were involved with many aspects of the search and rescue efforts of Hurricane Katrina.
Major Robert Woods organized flight operations during the event utilizing the JPSO helicopter and three helicopters from Knox County, Tennesse and a Huey provided by Dillon Aero Corporation. Several roof top rescues were successfully conducted along with flight operations used for crime prevention during outbreaks of looting throughout the parish.
 
 
Reserve Colonel Terry Pond and Lt. Jamie Monfra organized rescue and recovery operations utilizing boats and Deuce 1/2 trucks. In addition to assisting residents of the Westbank the day of Hurricane Katrina and residents of Metairie for weeks after the storm. The LASER Division also worked in numerous areas of New Orleans including Lakeview, Gentilly and the areas surrounding I-10 and 610.
