Major Charles Knopp has been employed at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office since July 5, 1972. Major Knopp started his career with the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office as a cadet at age 18. In 1974, he completed the academy and was assigned to the 2nd district patrol division and was promoted to road Sergeant in 1980 then to Lieutenant in 1982. In 1992 he was promoted to Captain and transferred as Commander of Court Security, followed by Assistant Director of Security to the Parish President in 1999 and promoted to Major in 2001. Major Knopp's responsibilities include, administrator of the parish electric security system. Other duties include monitor all security contacts with the parish president and handle internal investigations, which include policy violations by employees.

Major Knopp has wanted to be a police officer since he was 18 years old. "I strive to serve my community in the same way I would want to be served if I needed assistance. During the past 31 years, I have had the privilege to work with many good people, and look forward to the remainder of my career", said Major Knopp.
