Major Thompson joined the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office in August of 1973. He attended JPSO Academy #14 and upon completion of the academy was assigned to the First District as a Patrol Deputy and later promoted to Sergeant. During his service he attended Loyola University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and continued to promote throughout the department while working and supervising in the various districts. As a District Commander he oversees everyday operations of seventy-two deputies with safety being the number one priority. He is responsible for tracking and managing crime, schedule deputy training, keep deputies current on new laws and procedures attend civic association meetings and address concerns of the citizens.

Major Thompson has always wanted to be a police officer and was hired on as a Cadet after completing high school. "Law enforcement is a challenging career, but the personal rewards and satisfaction make it all worth while," said Thompson.
