Sergeant Pennison started his law enforcement career twenty-three years ago in the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center. Since that time he has worked in the 2nd District on Patrol and transferred to the Canine Division in 1986. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1991 and handles a dual purpose Narcotics/Patrol Canine as well as an Explosives Detector Canine for the airport. As a trainer he is responsible for conducting regular training sessions to assure our canine teams are efficient in narcotics searches and patrol work in tracking, building searches, obedience and criminal apprehensions. Sergeant Pennison is also responsible for proper care and scheduling of our canines and their regular veterinarian check-ups. The Canine Division is available to assist district officers in narcotic searches, bomb searches and locating and apprehending suspects that flee.

"At the age of fifteen, I visited a relative who was assigned to the Canine Division of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, I observed him briefly work his canine and since that time, I have wanted to become a canine handler,” said Pennison. "I hope to finish my career working in the Canine Division. After retirement I would like to breed dogs for police work."
