Colonel Terry Pond was one of the original founders and volunteers of the L.A.S.E.R. (Land Air Sea Emergency Rescue) Division back in 1967. The division started with two full time employees and two volunteers. Prior to the formation of this division, all rescues were handled by Civil Defense. Since Sheriff Harry Lee has taken office, the L.A.S.E.R. Division has grown to twelve full time employees under the command of Major Robert Woods and over forty volunteers. The Reserve L.A.S.E.R. made up of volunteer officers, support the L.A.S.E.R. Division in search and rescue operations, dive calls and flights. In addition they are responsible for medical support to the sheriff’s office when needed and teaching First Aid and CPR at the academy.

Colonel Terry Pond has retired from his full time job in corporate security working for Entergy Corporation with thirty-six years of service. “Working in corporate security allowed me to work with many law enforcement agencies, I rank the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office as one of the top agencies,” said Pond. “I still enjoy my affiliation with JPSO and the work that we accomplish."
