John Cotton has been employed at the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office since November 17, 1997. He started his career at JPSO working in the PODS at the Correctional Center. John was selected by upper management based on his outstanding work history and was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor. His duties and responsibilities include supervising the maintenance department and accounting for the tools and equipment. Other responsibilities include counseling and training the inmates, allowing them to leave the facility with a skill. The inmates are trained in the areas of electrical, welding and carpentry.

John has wanted to work for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office since he graduated from high school. "This job allows me to make a difference in someone's life, and possibly change their lives in a positive direction," said Cotton. John thanks his two commanders for their teamwork and this opportunity to work with the inmates.
