PEDESTRIAN FATALITY ON METAIRIE

Friday, November 08, 2013 03:20 PM

Sheriff Newell Normand reports, shortly after 1:00 PM this afternoon, our officers were dispatched to a vehicle accident where a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Hastings Street and Craig Avenue in Metairie.

First responding officers located the body of a 75-year-old Metairie man lying in the street suffering from multiple injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Traffic fatality investigator Jeff Navo's investigation revealed the driver of a local cement company had just completed dropping off a load of cement at a street construction site at the intersection of Craig and Hastings. According to witnesses, as the driver pulled away from the intersection, the victim, who was walking Northbound, apparently walked into he path of the truck.

The driver of the cement truck identified only as a forty year-old New Orleans man was not cited. The Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office will be consulted in this matter.
