OAK CREEK DRIVE SHOOTING-ARREST MADE
Wednesday, October 30, 2013 11:22 AM
As the investigation into yesterday evening’s shooting on Oak Creek Road continued, the victim, identified as 18 year-old, Dillon Morgan, of 126 Elodie Avenue in Harahan remains in critical condition at University Hospital. Homicide detectives worked through the evening conducting interviews with witnesses, all the while hoping to learn the identity of the person(s) responsible for the shooting Dillon Morgan. Detectives initially were told Morgan provided a name on the person who shot him while enroute to University Hospital. The suspect was identified as DEMOND STEWART, B/M, 21, of 2024 Oak Creek Road, in Jefferson. Attempts to locate Stewart at his apartment were unsuccessful. A search warrant for Stewart’s apartment was authored and executed resulting in the recovery of a firearm that was believed used in the shooting of Morgan. JPSO firearms examiner Jene’ Rauch conducted ballistic analysis of the weapon, along with shell casings found on the scene, concluding a match of the weapon seized from Stewart’s apartment.
A relative of Demond Stewart provided investigators with information indicating Stewart may have been at an address in New Orleans. Shortly thereafter, investigators located Demond Stewart inside of a residence at 2226 Clouet Street. Stewart agreed to voluntary accompany investigators back to the JPSO Investigations Bureau, here he confessed to shooting Dillon Morgan over a marijuana transaction.
Demond Stewart was subsequently transported to the JPCC where he was booked with one count of Attempt Second Degree Murder. Stewart’s prior criminal history includes arrests for Simple Battery, Theft and Shoplifting.
