According to witnesses, the victim was sitting at the bar when he became involved in a physical altercation with another patron. During the altercation, the victim was allegedly punched and knocked to the floor by the other male. The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of next-of-kin. We have no suspect information at this time.
This matter is being investigated as a homicide, however, the exact cause of death will not be determined until an autopsy is performed by the JP Coroners Office.

The victim in this morning's homicide on Veterans Boulevard has been identified as Andan Anwar, W/M, 40, of 4404 Wade Drive in Metairie.
Our homicide investigators learned the victim and an individual identified as Todd Garvin, W/M, 46, from Metairie were involved in a dispute over the availability of a pool table. As Garvin continued arguing with the victim, a friend of Garvin's, identified as Aaron Ullrich, B/M, 37, of 525 North Wilson St. in Metairie walked over and punched Anwar on the jaw, knocking him to the floor. Both Ullrich and Garvin left the bar immediately following the incident. Aaron Ullrich was arrested a short time later and is being booked with one count of Manslaughter in the death of Anwar. Ullrich admitted to investigators that he did punch the victim as confirmed by witnesses.
An autopsy was conducted by the JP Coroners Office today and determined that Andan Anwar died as a result of a blow to the head.
