DOUBLE HOMICIDE IN HARVEY--UPDATE

Friday, August 16, 2013 02:06 PM

As the investigation into the double homicide on Paige Jeanette Drive in Harvey continues, Homicide Detectives have made significant strides in identifying several suspects who are believed to be involved in this incident. On the night of 8/13/13 as investigators were gathering information from the scene on Paige Jeanette Drive, an individual, identified as JEREMY COLEMAN, B/M, 19, of # 23 Cynthia Street in Waggaman was dropped off at West Jefferson Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound. While being treated, COLEMAN provided investigators several different versions of how and where he was shot. Investigators were able to disprove each account provided by COLEMAN, and, as a result, COLEMAN was booked with two counts of Second Degree Murder in the deaths of NIKIAYN WESTERFIELD and DAVE HARRISON. COLEMAN was somewhat uncooperative while being questioned by detective. He remains in West Jefferson Hospital, under guard, with a non-life threatening injury.

Homicide Detective Gary Barteet learned the identity of the individual who dropped off COLEMAN at West Jefferson. He is IRVIN HARRIS, B/M, 20, of 2716 Chinkapin Drive in Harvey. The vehicle both COLEMAN & HARRIS were seen at West Jefferson Hospital was a 2008 Chevrolet GMC Envoy, registered to COLEMAN’s mother. This vehicle was entered into our ALPR data base as a vehicle believed to be involved in the Paige Jeanette Drive murders. On August 15, 2013, around 7:35 PM, First District patrol officer Cory Himel responded to an “ALPR hit” on the GMC vehicle being driven in Metairie. The vehicle was stopped and the individual driving was identified as IRVIN HARRIS. HARRIS agreed to accompany detectives to the investigations bureau for further questioning. HARRIS admitted being with COLEMAN in the same GMC vehicle in Harvey on the night of August 13, 2013. However, HARRIS told investigators he was dropped off by COLEMAN at a friend’s home in Harvey. Shortly thereafter, HARRIS told investigators JEREMY COLEMAN returned to the friend’s home telling him he was shot. It was then COLEMAN was driven to WJMC in the GMC vehicle. As the interview continued with HARRIS, investigators walked out of the interview room, to compare information being provided by HARRIS. Upon returning to the interview room, it was discovered that HARRIS was no longer there. A search of the building and the surrounding neighborhood for IRVIN HARRIS met with negative results. Based on the inconsistencies of in the information being provided by HARRIS, investigators issued arrest warrants for IRVIN HARRIS charging him with two counts of Second Degree Murder in the deaths of WESTERFIELD & HARRISON.

Anyone with information in this matter, or who may know the whereabouts of IRVIN HARRIS is asked to contact Detective Gary Barteet at 504-364-5300 or CRIMESTOPPERS.
