On June 16, 2013, around 1:30 PM, our officers were dispatched to a medical roll at 733 Carollwood Village Apt. 113, in Terrytown. First responding Second District Patrol officers observed the victim, identified as Viloude Louis, B/F, 5, lying unresponsive, on the bathroom floor. West Jefferson EMS arrived and attempted to revive the victim for several minutes. She was transported to Ochsner Hospital West Bank and pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Homicide Detective Matt Vasquez was assigned the follow-up investigation in this matter. Vasquez learned the victim was at home alone with her 13 year-old half-brother (who is not being identified due to his age) while the victim's mother was away at a nearby store. According to the 13 year-old, the victim was complaining of a stomach ache and proceeded upstairs to brush her teeth. After approximately 30 minutes had passed, the 13 year-old went upstairs to check on the child. He reported that she was on the floor in the bathroom complaining of her stomach hurting. After walking downstairs with the 5 year-old, the child laid down on the sofa. A short time later, the 13 year-old noticed the victim was not breathing at which time he called 911. The 13 year-old was given instructions by our 911 operator to begin CPR on the child until EMS arrived. While EMS was on scene, the victim's mother arrived back at home.
The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office conducted an external examination of the victim, noting no obvious signs of trauma or major injuries. She did have what appeared to be a bruise on her elbow. Her cause of death at that time was unclassified.
As Vasquez’s investigation continued, and on the morning of June 17, 2013, he conducted an interview with the mother of the victim, Adlourdes Desvallons, 39, and with her 13 year-old stepson. Vasquez learned that on the morning of the initial incident, the 13 year-old was babysitting his 5 year-old step-sister while the mother away. The 13 year-old reported he started to wrestle with the victim and practiced “WWE” style wrestling moves on the 5 year-old. He explained to Vasquez how he picked the victim up and slammed her on the bed several times and punching her in the stomach several times. Additionally, he jumped on the victim and struck her with his elbow several times like the wrestlers do on television. The 13 year-old also told Vasquez that he knows wrestling on television was fake. The 13 year-old continued by saying the victim complained that she was hurting, but he continued to slam, punch and elbow her for an additional two or three minutes stopping when his mother called him on the phone to check on he and the victim. Detective Vasquez noted the 13 year-old was smiling and appeared to enjoy talking about the wrestling moves and physical abuse during the interview that he was conducting on the victim.
In summary, the victim's death is now classified as a homicide based on the autopsy findings. Her injuries consisted of severe blunt force trauma to the body, multiple internal injuries including broken ribs, lacerations to the liver, and internal bleeding. Detective Matt Vasquez authored an arrest warrant for the 13 year-old charging him with one count of Second Degree Murder. He was transported to the JAC and booked accordingly.
