Saturday, January 12, 2013 06:17 PM
Shortly after 12:00 PM, on January 11, 2013, JPSO officers Sean Williams of the Second District and Ryan Singleton of the Crime Lab were near the intersection of Terry Parkway and Carol Sue Avenue in Terrytown when they heard what they believed were gunshots. Within seconds a grey Pontiac Grand Am, being driven by a white male, identified as Earl Alleman Jr., 32, of Gretna flagged down the officers and advised he been shot by a black male suspect in a grey pick-up truck. A description of the suspect and vehicle was broadcast. EMS arrived on the scene and transported Alleman to Ochsner-West Bank where he was treated for a non-life-threatening injury.
Alleman told Investigators he was driving down Terry Parkway when a black male subject in a late-model pick-up truck pulled up behind him and began blowing his horn, pointing his finger at him and driving erratically. Alleman said he pulled over into a nearby service station where he and the other driver became involved in a verbal altercation. Both drivers left the service station and as Alleman re-entered Terry Parkway, the suspect continued to follow him. It was when Alleman told investigators upon reaching the intersection near Terry Parkway and Carol Sue he stopped at the traffic light an observed the suspect exit his vehicle, produced a handgun and began firing at him.
Shortly after a description was broadcast for the wanted suspect, Officer Singleton spotted the vehicle traveling in the 500 block of Terry Pkwy. After stopping the vehicle, the driver, identified as Carl Mitchell, B/M, 48, of 1936 Concord Road in Gretna was placed under arrest without incident. A handgun believed to be the weapon used by Mitchell was recovered from the inside of Mitchell's vehicle. When questioned regarding the incident, Mitchell confessed, and told investigators he shot the victim because he was angered over a traffic infraction with him. Mitchell was transported to the JPCC and booked with one count each of Attempt Murder, Aggravated Criminal Damage, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon along with Illegal Discharging of a Firearm.@
