During the early evening hours of January 6, 2013, our officers were dispatched to an aggravated burglary an aggravated rape of and 83 year-old white female who resided in the 400 block of Avenue L in Marrero. First responding officers met with the victim and quickly obtained a description of the wanted suspect. This information was broadcast to additional units responding to the area.
Upon being interviewed, the victim reported walking into her residence, only to find a black male suspect standing in the living room. She told investigators the suspect grabbed her from behind, escorted her into her bedroom where he began removing her clothing. The victim was then placed on the bed and forcibly raped. Within four minutes of the radio broadcast, Third District officers Gabriel Fauchetta and Tawyna Thornton spotted a black male subject fitting the description of the Avenue L wanted suspect walking in the 6600 block of the Westbank Expressway. As the officers approached the subject he began to flee. After a brief foot pursuit, the suspect was apprehended on Salmone Street and Ames Blvd. Following a physical struggle, the suspect, Kenneth Adams was placed under arrest. Arresting officers discovered several items of jewelry, along with a “crack pipe” in Adams’ possession. Adams was transported to the JPSO Investigations Bureau for questioning.
