Sheriff Newell Normand, Jefferson Parish President John Young and members of the
Greater New Orleans-Jefferson Gun Buy Back Committee are sponsoring a Gun Buy
Back event on January 8, 2011, in Jefferson Parish.
Beginning at 9:00 AM on the day of the event, and lasting until all funds are
depleted; citizens may bring firearms of all types to either of the following
locations for a No Questions Asked exchange.
Second Zion Church………….……. 6520 Second Zion Avenue in Marrero
Marine Baptist Church……….……. 3034 Andover Street in Metairie
Weapons such as handguns, rifles or shotguns that are operational will be
exchanged for $50.00 cash. Any operational assault weapon will be exchanged for
$200.00 cash. Citizens who want to discard ammunition may bring these items in
as well for proper disposal.
JPSO firing range officers will be on hand to accept and inspect all weapons
brought to the collection sites. Anyone participating in this Buy Back Program
and wanting to turn their weapons in, are asked to place all firearms in the
trunk of their vehicles for safe transporting. If possible, they are also asked
to please wrap their weapons in some type of covering before entering the
A complimentary free health screening will be offered to all participants by
Physicians from the Tulane Mobile Health Clinic and St Anna’s Medical Mission.
Greater New Orleans-Jefferson Gun Buy Back representatives will be distributing
free gun locks.
