Sheriff Joseph Lopinto, as the Ex-Officio Tax Collector of Jefferson Parish, announces that on Friday, November 17, 2017, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Revenue and Taxation began mailing the 2017 property tax notices to Jefferson Parish residents and businesses. The total number of commercial and residential tax notices to be mailed is 175,583. Property taxes for 2017 become due upon receipt of the tax notice and become delinquent if not paid by December 31, 2017. Payments made on or postmarked by January 2, 2018 will not incur interest charges. Residential and commercial property owners not receiving a tax notice in the mail by December 11, 2017 should contact our office for assistance.
The tax notice format is unchanged from last year and provides information on a variety of issues including mortgage companies and escrow accounts, filing for a homestead exemption, changes to the mailing address, and questions regarding your tax assessment. Taxpayers are asked to enclose the payment stub along with their remittance when making payment to ensure proper credit. A self-addressed envelope is included with each tax notice.
