Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrest of Keston Mimmitt, B/M, 35, of Metairie, for one count of First degree rape and one count of False imprisonment.
On July 9, 2017, our deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of Manson Drive in Metairie in what was initially a medical call for service for a female suffering a leg injury after a fall. Deputies were able to determine that the female was attempting to escape a physically abusive relationship, and that she had injured her leg while exiting a window attempting to escape from a male at the location, Keston Mimmitt. Mimmitt was initially at the location, but fled as the female was being treated.
On July 11, 2017, Detective Kay Horne, the JPSO representative to the FBI Major Crimes Task Force, was notified of a female being treated at a local hospital for injuries sustained during a rape being reported from the same area of Manson Drive. Upon meeting with the victim, Detective Horne found it was the same female injured just days before, and recognized her from a previous case. The victim related that she was initially too scared to tell the responding deputies the whole story, but she provided a full account to Detective Horne. The victim described being raped a number of times by Mimmitt, and that she was being held inside his residence against her will.
The victim also told Detective Horne that Mimmitt was forcing her into prostitution, and physically abusing her if she did not willingly engage in the activities. She described the situation as one that had been going on for months. She explained a previous occasion earlier this year when Mimmitt was arrested for a Human trafficking offense related to prostitution. Those charges are still pending.
Given the victim's statements, Detective Horne secured an arrest warrant for Mimmitt. He was located and arrested the next day on July 12, and was not cooperative with investigators.
We are releasing this information, along with Mimmitt's photograph, in hopes that if anyone else was victimized by Mimmitt, they are able to come forward and report the offense. Anyone wishing to do so can call 911 from anywhere in Jefferson Parish, or contact our Personal Violence Section at 504-364-5300.
