Sheriff Newell Normand announces the arrest of three juvenile suspects in Metairie armed robberies. They are identified only as a B/M 16 from Algiers, a B/M 16 from Gretna, and a B/M 16 from New Orleans. Also wanted in connection with these investigations is an unidentified B/M whose nickname is "Manman".
On December 29, 2016 around 6:53pm a female victim who was driving her 2013 Lexus RX350, pulled into her driveway of her home in the 4900 block of James Drive in Metairie, LA. Moments later she was approached by two young black males, both wearing dark clothing, with some type of covering over their faces. Both were armed with black semiautomatic handguns. The suspects demanded property from the victim, at which time she gave them her purse containing her cell phone, gift cards, and credit cards. While the victim was being robbed, her son exited their residence, and he too was ordered to surrender his property. The male victim complied and gave the suspects his property which included keys to the Lexus. Both victims described the firearms as black semi-automatic pistols, one of which had a tactical flashlight attached. The two suspects entered the vehicle and fled north on James Drive.
While en-route to the James Drive address, another robbery was reported around 7:00 PM in the 5100 block of Cleveland Place in Metairie. A female called 911 to report that her elderly father had just been robbed by three black male subjects. This victim parked his 4-dr 2016 Mercedes C300 in his daughter's driveway and upon exiting the vehicle, was robbed at gunpoint. The victim was ordered to place his vehicle keys, and property consisting of his driver's license, cash and a credit card onto the vehicle's center console. Both suspects entered the Mercedes and fled west on Cleveland Place.
Investigators located the victim's iPhone in a nearby driveway on Cleveland Place. Crime Scene Technician Deputy Aaron Toups collected the phone for processing. A forensic analysis was performed on the recovered cell phone which led investigators to the identity of the 16 year old from Algiers. Both vehicles were entered into our ALPR camera system.
Later that evening, around 9:11pm, the stolen Lexus travelled through the ALPR camera near the West Bank Expressway and Westwood Drive in Marrero. Units converged on the area and later discovered the Mercedes and the Lexus at a gas station at 7101 West Bank Expressway. Our officers approached the Mercedes and identified themselves as Police Officers to the passenger (who was pumping gas) and the driver of the Mercedes. After a brief struggle, both suspects were taken into custody. A search incidental to arrest resulted in the discovery of a small amount of marijuana on one of the suspects as well as property belonging to an unnamed female victim. This victim was later contacted by JPSO Investigators who told them she didn’t realize her property had been taken from her vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the Lexus fled on foot upon noticing the presence of police and a foot chase ensued. Assisting Third District officers apprehended the driver as the 16 year old from Algiers. He was apprehended without incident on Dimarco Drive and 8th Street. A perimeter was established and a search for the remaining suspect began. He was able to void capture.
All three suspects were transported to the JPSO Investigations Bureau for questioning. The Lexus and Mercedes were towed for processing. Investigators located receipts for the gasoline dispensed into each of the vehicle. The receipts indicated the purchase was made with one of the victim's stolen credit card. While processing both vehicles, a fully loaded black 9mm semi-automatic H&K pistol was located in the center console of the Lexus. This pistol was discovered stolen in a vehicle burglary reported on December 29, 2016 on 500 Rasberry Street in Metairie.
